Where is the facing of your house? How to use a compass.
The facing of a house is the most active side of your home. It is where; in most cases, the main entrance door is located, or where the main street is. It is where the mailman comes through to deliver your mail usually. If you have a clearly marked back yard, the facing would be the exact opposite side. Keep in mind that the direction your entrance door faces may not be the same as the facing direction of your home.
Let's look at these images:
This image is pretty straight forward. The main door to the house is located at the facing side of the house. When you look out of your main window you see the main street and your front yard. To do the compass reading of the house you walk about 6 steps straight out of your main door do a reading with your back parallel to the house. Then walk a few more steps and do the same. The stars indicate some places from which you should do a compass reading.
Now the following image is the same image as above but the main entrance is at the side. Even if you had an attached garage at the facing side, your facing is the same as above since the main street is still located there thus making it the most active side of your home. And if you look at your backyard, the opposite side is still the same.
Once you locate the facing you need to read the DIRECTION of the facing. In Feng Shui we need to read the MAGNETIC direction not the Geographic direction of a house. To do this you need a very basic traditional compass.
You need to remove all jewelry or any objects with metals such as belts form yourself. Hold the compass at your waistline. You need to make sure that the red dial aligns with North. Then you read the degree where the dial stops. Look at the image at the bottom of this page for more clarification.
When you are ready to do a compass reading stand with your back parallel to the house and read the direction of the facing.
You need to make a few readings of the facing. One a few steps from your door (if it is located in the facing). Next you walk straight out between 6-10 steps and make note of that reading. Again walk few more steps and do the same. The marked red stars in the above images give you an idea of where the reading should take place. Make notes of all the readings. To make sure you have done this correctly you need to go to the back of the house and do the reading of the DIRECTION the back of the house faces. So this time you make a reading in your yard with your back parallel to the house. Again walk away a few steps and make another reading.
For example, you may get these numbers from the facing of the house: 345 - 336 - 344.5 - 342 - 345. I need you to email me all the readings along with the filled in questionnaire. Make sure you tell me which ones are from the facing and which ones are from the back of the house.
